At Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Dr. Christopher Butler oversees all aspects of the percussion curriculum including applied lessons with graduate and undergraduate percussion majors, percussion pedagogy, percussion literature, and percussion methods.

As the director of the SIU Percussion Ensemble, a premier chamber ensemble within the SIU School of Music, Dr. Butler conducts contemporary works for chamber percussion. In addition, Dr. Butleralso works closely with the SIU Drumline and writes all of their music including exercises, cadences, and shows.

Dr. Butler is also deeply involved in aspects of music technology at SIU including the teaching of Computers and Music, a significant course for SIU music majors focusing on music software and hardware.
